Before considering ways to âdetoxâ, let us first understand what toxins are. Without getting involved into scientific terminologies we could look upon anything that is capable of causing a disease on contacting or on being absorbed by body tissues, or simply put anything that is poisonous to our biological functioning, is a toxin.
From this point of view our body also produces a lot of waste matter which can be termed as toxin; fortunately our biological system is so programmed that it gets rid of these toxins as a normal function.

On any given day, close to a million Americans are treated for alcohol addiction. Part of the treatment many problem drinkers go through is alcohol detoxification. Alcohol detoxification is described as the immediate termination of alcohol intake coupled with the ingestion of medicines that help to assuage the withdrawal symptoms that accompany prolonged drinking.
Withdrawal symptoms include insomnia, headaches, palpitations, shaking of the hands, profuse sweating, clammy skin, pallor, dilated pupils, involuntary movements of the eyelids, spasms, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and a general awful feeling. These physical symptoms are accompanied by feelings of anxiety or nervousness, depression, irritability, excitability, emotional volatility, confusion, and disturbed sleep. Approximately one in twenty people suffer from more severe symptoms known as delirium tremens (or DTs) that can entail fever, tremors and convulsions, extreme agitation, deep confusion, and auditory and visual hallucinations. People who have DTs need immediate treatment. Untreated delirium tremens may lead to serious physical complications resulting in death.

I am 30 years old and I have always been a drinker although in the last 18 months this had got out of control. I have been on a detox for 2 1/2 weeks now decreasing alcohol until 10 days ago when I completely cut down. The first 3-5 days were horrendous with insomnia, lethargy and anxiety. The anxiety is better now and most other symptoms have improved. My problem is that I feel anxious about feeliing anxious and have found myself having to cancel meetings, appointmnents, abandon shopping trips and/or avoiding public places because I just feel too anxious.

I’m looking for an alcohol detox program – and I prefer a place that is here in Loves Park, Illinois. My boyfriend, Matt, has an alcohol problem. It all started when his brother Joey passed away. Matt and Joey are very close – they’re partners in crime, they’re bestfriends, and they’re brothers. Joey died because of a car accident last March. Matt was supposed to pick up his brother from his dorm and drive him back home but he wasn’t able to do that because he had to play with his band at a local club. Joey came from a party and he drove his own car… well, drunk. He fell asleep while driving and he crashed into another car. Joey died during the accident and Matt never forgave himself for choosing a gig over his brother. Because of his guilt, Matt drowned himself in alcohol. After months of persuasion, I finally convinced him to undergo a detoxification program. Please help us.
