Question by Notme: Why is my liver hurting now that I quit drinking alcohol?
I quit drinking 41 days ago and my Dr did a liver blood test. Test showed that my liver was fine, but the past 5 days my liver hurts really bad. I had no detox symptoms when I quit after 7 plus years of daily drinking. Should I have my docter run another test? Is this normal? I am a 52 yr. old female.
I have IBS and had an ultrasound done on my liver, gall bladder and kidneys. All was normal, thus the IBS. The pain is below my rib cage. Could the gall bladder be pressing on my liver? Thanks!!
Ultrasound was done over a year ago.

While keeping fit and staying healthy should be something we all aspire to year-round, the reality is that people’s desire to stay healthy goes through cycles in the UK. The months after Christmas, for example, see many men and women go on a sudden detox, depriving themselves of fatty food and alcohol in order to recover from the excesses of Christmas. Similarly, the onset of summer means that many people decide to follow a crash-diet in order to ensure that their physique is in shape for their upcoming beach holiday. However, there are several simple ways to keep your health in check throughout the year – and they don’t have to involve regular gym visits or expensive vitamin supplements. For starters, if you drive to work or you take the bus, consider whether you can walk there instead. A ten-minute drive or bus journey may be possible on foot in around 30 minutes. And while this is likely to involve waking up earlier, your waistline – and your wallet – is sure to feel the benefits of this little extra exercise. If this isn’t a feasible option for you, try taking a brisk 30-minute walk after dinner. This ensures that you remain active and may help your digestion as well. Moreover, if you have a dog or children, there are many more opportunities for staying active. Dogs need plenty of exercise and taking your pet for a considerable walk twice a day, or playing games with it in the park, is sure to give you a workout that will rival a session in the gym. Children too are bundles of energy and a daily 20-minute game of football or rounders in your garden could be just what you need to wake up your tired muscles and improve the overall health of you and your family.Small changes to your diet could make a huge difference too. For example, eliminating a chocolate bar , a biscuit or a packet of crisps from your daily snack regime could trigger a long-term change that leads to future weight-loss, as you will consume fewer fatty foods. What’s more, replacing fizzy drinks with unsweetened fruit juice or water will also reduce your intake of sugar, an excess of which can cause serious health problems and weight gain. Moderating your intake of alcohol, particularly if you regularly binge drink, may also promote weight-loss and general health. If you’re worried about the effect your lifestyle is having on your health, or you lead a relatively healthy lifestyle and think you could do more, consider taking an online health check. Many of these are free of charge and you may only need to answer a few questions to gain some valuable health advice. And if you’re concerned about your results, make an appointment with your GP to see how you can make consistent improvements to your health levels in the future.
