Does California State Medi-Cal cover Alcohol Rehab?
A family member of mine is suffering from severe alcoholism and I am looking in to options of getting her into a Detox-Rehab program. Does anyone know if State of California no-cost Medi-cal would cover such a thing.? She is also considered disabled due to mental illness, so I don’t know if any programs are available for disabled people in particular. Any info you have on this would be very helpful and appreciated. Thank you.

You have to contact Medi-Cal and find out. Here is their site:

I know that San Francisco has several dual diagnosis programs that are covered by medi-cal. You may need a referral from a caseworker or a physician.
Medi-cal will cover anything, so long as the primary care physician writes the order. I have recieved Medi-cal funded substance abuse in-patient, care in the past. If your family member is collecting SSDI, then they should be eligible for Medi-Care, which becomes the primary source of insurance,I have never been denied care under CA guidelines.. Unless she is already a CA resident and fits the economic baseline, CA really has no no-cost Medical insurance. I am curious as to why, if there is a mental health diagnosis, there is no physician attending to this person. Why doesn’t their doctor simply admit them to a detox center?
