Treatment centers for alcohol rehab are acutely aware of one fact, whichever part of the world they are operating in. They know that treatment options such as detox are not helpful for a long-term recovery for an addicted person. Detox is immensely useful for cleaning the person’s body of the addiction. The process helps the body of the person to flush out the toxins from within it so that the person can be protected from the health complications that the substance might cause and will move towards recovery better because the elimination process will help them overcome their cravings for the substance. But this process will not be very much helpful to completely cure the addiction.
There is an important reason for that. Addiction is a mental illness, not physical. When a person is made to undergo detox or any other such physical process, it is the physical dependency in the person that is treated. The addiction still remains in the person’s mind. What really needs to be done is to remove the addiction from the mind of the person. This is what a carefully planned out aftercare program can do.

Everybody comes home from a long day and thinks about sitting on the couch while cracking open an ice-cold beer. After all, that is the reason it was created, to be a refreshing and relaxing drink enjoyed after a hard day’s work. Nobody could have possibly guessed that it would become such an addicting and dangerous substance. On the other hand, if consumed responsibly and drank on occasion, it is very unlikely that a person will become reliant on it. However, this is not always the case in everyone’s life.
Unfortunately, there are people out there that choose excessive drinking every day, and sometime multiple times a day, and these people end up becoming an alcoholic. Alcoholics usually end up causing a lot of damage due to their addiction. For instance, alcohol can severely damage your liver, ruin relationships with loved ones, get you in trouble with the law, and strain a person’s financial funding.

It is not a joyful moment when you realize that you are going to a drug and alcohol rehab center. One thing is though, that when you leave the rehab center free of addiction, you will be a much happier person knowing you defeated the drug addiction. There are a lot of reasons a person is addicted to drugs. Some people got injured or had surgery and were given opioid based drugs like methadone, oxycodone, oxycontin, or other addicting prescription drugs. Others are people who made the choice of trying drugs for the purpose of feeling a high and ended up becoming addicted to the drug. A lot of people enter into a drug treatment center so that they can relieve themselves of the grip that the drug they are using has on them.
Going into a drug rehab center is very beneficial for someone because they are given 24 hour assistance. They also have the help of professionals that can guide them on what they will be experiencing when they are going through the drug detox. One thing that they focus on at a rehab center is that they are trying to make your detox the least painful and miserable as possible. Withdrawals from drugs can be very strong and they are not easy to cope with. Some people can be in the process of breaking an addiction for 6 months or more. Some cases do not take as much time, but it varies based on the drug, the amount of time used, and how the person’s body reacts.
