When I was younger I often went to friends’ homes after school and was there when their parents arrived home from work. Their usual routine was to walk through the door, kick off their shoes and pour themselves a drink. They’d usually have a couple before dinner, then another one or two afterwards. I didn’t see it as alcohol abuse – after all, everyone did it, that was life in the suburbs – and I didn’t think they needed alcohol detox. What I didn’t know at the time was what the alcohol was doing to their live, and how that one factor alone would eventually affect their health and their quality of life.
Does the term ‘alcohol abuse’ actually apply to someone who never gets drunk? Does someone who never seems to drink to excess need alcohol detox? And can your health really be so badly affected when you drink so little? If you listen to your liver, the answer is a resounding yes.
Question by Notme: Why is my liver hurting now that I quit drinking alcohol?
I quit drinking 41 days ago and my Dr did a liver blood test. Test showed that my liver was fine, but the past 5 days my liver hurts really bad. I had no detox symptoms when I quit after 7 plus years of daily drinking. Should I have my docter run another test? Is this normal? I am a 52 yr. old female.
I have IBS and had an ultrasound done on my liver, gall bladder and kidneys. All was normal, thus the IBS. The pain is below my rib cage. Could the gall bladder be pressing on my liver? Thanks!!
Ultrasound was done over a year ago.
Why do I always feel guilty and bad each time I drink, especially the next day I feel even guiltier than ever and promise myself that I will quit. I do want to quit and want to detox my body but everytime we have any social events.. there I go drink again…i can be better than this since i had never really needed to drink before and was very much focused on myself and body.
I’m so pissed off, my friends party next friday and im expecting my period. Im scared ill be too wasted to remember to change my tampon and get TSS :/ does drinking by any chance lighten your period or anything?? or do like detox liquid things make it come quicker???? thanks
I went to the docs becuase I go out at weekends and was drinking a lot (70 units a week approx). He said my gamma GT level was high (55) and that I should not drink for 3 months. Ive done a month without a drink and was wondering if when I go on holiday next week and have a couple at night (and i mean a couple) will this effect my detox and put me back at square one or will it be ok?
So I’ve been to detox twice and am now addicted to alcohol again, but I’m in school full time and REALLY can’t miss any. My doctors are prescribing me librium and valium and letting me detox outpatient as long as I go to the doctors office every day to get checked out until I’m done withdrawing… but I’m on my second day of detox and I’m drinking a couple of beers. I know, I know, it’s obviously not OK, but I’m just wondering if anything physically bad is going to happen? Thank you for your help.
