First, you must realize that in this alcohol-phillic society, we jeopardize our health and that of others by not telling the truth about alcohol as a drug. Alcohol, viewed as a drug, is in the general class of drugs known as sedatives, which includes all the barbiturates, including, but not limited to sodium thiopental (commonly, “sodium pentothal”) which is a very commonly used general anesthetic! People who are addicted to either “class” of drug, whether it be alcohol or barbiturates/sedatives, will exhibit both cross-tolerance and cross-addiction to any drug from the other class. When this first became well-known as a result of the study of alcoholics (many of whom also had problems with barbiturates) in the ‘60s and ‘70s, medical science came up with a new term to describe the illness, “alcoholism/sedative-ism” as so many of the factors of one “addiction” were common to the other, including, but not limited to the alcohol/sedative cross-tolerance and cross-addiction.

Hello! I’m Cassie and I moved here in Ellinwood, Kansas just the other day with my family. I’m wondering if I could find a drug and alcohol rehab here because my husband needs to get all the help he can because he has a problem with drugs and alcohol and he really wants to change. As I’ve said, we just moved here so I really don’t have any idea whether I can find a rehab here or not. Please help us find a nearby rehab. Thank you so much.
I am interested in others views on this subject. I personally think that these centres have a great plan of action. The flaws are that grouping lots of codependent individuals with each other in a closed ‘big brother’ type environment is creating lots of ‘relationships’ between patients who pair off and enable each other to drink/do drugs again.
I am amazed at how people enter services to do the detox for their husband or wife and kids only to forget them in a few days and start a sexual relationship with another user.
What is your opinion on such services and do you have any better ideas?
