Question by : Please help me find a free/low cost alcohol detox center in southeast PA?
is there anyone that can help me find a free or very low cost inpatient alcohol detox clinic in southeast Pennsylvania preferably between Philly and Allentown area for someone who has no insurance and little money?
This is for 2 family members. One is disabled and their health is suffering greatly from this addiction and is in the hospital currently (some issues cause by liver disease), my other family members was recently laid off due to the company they worked for closing and their health is not as bad but their addiction does not help stop the other one because they live together. So when the one gets home from the hospital after going through with drawl (they treat with adavan) they go right back to drinking because the other one did not have treatment. They had agreed to go to detox but while we were working on setting them up at a detox clinic the job loss happened and they cut off their insurance.

If anyone can help me find a clinic it’d be greatly appreciated. I need to find one asap before i lose them. And please only relevant and serious answers because im looking for help on finding a clinic and not to be lectured. I’m almost 26 and they’ve been drinking way longer than that so i’m proud that they finally made the choice and are willing to get help.
thank you both for the tips.
JoGusto- they are my parents and it is incredibly draining on me and my siblings. The ill parent beat cancer and leukemia (from result of radiation with cancer) and it kills us watching them suffer and I have days where i feel like im losing my mind. It’s hard to comprehend how one beats cancer but is killing himself by drinking. I know that if he made it through that, he can overcome this too. For myself I’m considering attending some of those AA meetings for family members of alcoholics. Thank you again

Best answer:

Answer by Buster
I don’t live in your area. Your 2 relatives may have to go their county human services for evaluation. The payment would be based on their income. They would be evaluated and offered treatment but it may be as an outpatient. They must have some motivation to stop drinking or even the best in-patient program will not help them. My local county offers a medication for those who are willing to quit drinking. It is taken every day and blocks the buzz or high one gets from alcohol. Try to see if you can get them in for evaluation as soon as possible.

There is an alarming rise of alcohol related injuries and diseases in British Columbia. If you suspect that your drinking habit is crossing the limits, you need to seek the help of alcohol rehab centers British Columbia as soon as possible. When you start looking for one, you will come across many rehab treatment centers; you will be confused to choose the right one. Keep in mind always, the best treatment center is the one that is offering an integrated approach to rehabilitation.

To break-free from the slavery of alcohol addiction on your own is virtually impossible. The best alcohol rehab centers British Columbia do not offer cookie cutter programs, which solve the issue of alcoholism in a day or a single program that fits all. There is no single program which suits all. The health care professionals, therapists, counselors and nutritionist in the alcohol rehabilitation centers work together to tailor a program that meets your exact needs.

The first thing professionals at the center look at when they start a rehab treatment program are your physical health requirements. Detoxification is often the first phase in the process of recovery. The withdrawal symptoms start gnarling its teeth in three to eight hours after you stop drinking, as the effect of alcohol in your physical system wears off. You need professional help at this critical juncture of the treatment to survive the cravings. That’s why many who try to conquer the addiction on their own fall for their cravings miserably. Alcohol rehab centers British Columbia has a team of experts, who prescribe medications that help reduce the nastiness of withdrawal symptoms. Besides, a nurse or doctor monitors your condition 24 hours a day, so any serious problem can be diagnosed immediately and fixed. Since lack of vitamins can cause brain damage, doctors ensure you balance the deficiency well.

After the successful completion of the detox phase, what await you at the center is the counseling and therapy sessions. Alcohol rehab centers British Columbia allows you to choose inpatient or outpatient addiction treatment program. Inpatient treatment program offers you stay at the center where it is calmer, relaxed environment free from all distractions and trigger for relapse. You can focus on your recovery by staying there. However, if you have the confidence in your own self-control and can stay clean at home or work environment then you can opt for outpatient treatment program. However, if you have co-occurring psychological disorders like depression, eating disorder or bipolar disorder, residential care is crucial to attain complete recovery. If you suffer from diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure or any other medical disorder, staying in the rehab treatment center for the recommended period can help you get rid of alcohol addiction safely.

Alcohol Rehab Center British Columbia offers counseling services that help you tackle your emotions that affect your mental health. You can strengthen your mind with relapse prevention skills and receive education about alcoholism. The counselors will also help you identify the triggers that make you long for a drink. They will share with you the techniques to make your life happy, healthy and productive. You will continue to receive follow up service to sustain abstinence, till you are rehabilitated into normal life, happy and normal.

Article by Mike C

Alcohol detox can be considered an unpleasant but necessary aspect of getting off alcohol and fighting alcoholism. There are usually symptoms of alcohol detox but the range of symptoms are different depending on the person and on how much alcohol they usually drink. Heavy drinkers usually have more severe alcohol withdrawal symptoms than those who did not drink as much alcohol but were still regular, addicted drinkers. Some lucky people do not get symptoms of alcohol detox at all.

You can’t predict what can happen to you when you detox from alcohol so you need to plan for every possibility. You need to have someone with you and you shouldn’t go through it alone. Expect for the process to last up to 72 hours but it can be shorter than that. Any time you have been drinking regularly for years, you can expect to have some symptoms of withdrawl. Talk to your doctor before undergoing detoxification to see whether this can be done at home, whether you can have medications to take for the process and whether there are any health risks involved in alcohol detoxification in your case.

The mild to moderate psychological symptoms include having feelings of shakiness, jumpiness or nervousness, bordering on full on anxiety. You can be easily excited or have an irritability that makes you have a difficult time being around a lot of people. You can be very tired and can feel extremely depressed. The depression can be severe and last long past the alcohol detox. In such cases, you may need medical intervention. You can have difficulty in thinking clearly and can experience bad dreams.

Moderate physical symptoms you can experience include a generalized, pulsating headache, sweating of the face or palms of the hands, nausea and vomiting, insomnia, loss of appetite, pallor, clammy skin, tremor of the hands and abnormal movements of the body, as well as abnormal movements of the eyelids.

If you are unlucky enough to have severe symptoms of alcohol detox, you might have confusion or visual, auditory or tactile hallucinations–a condition called delirium tremens. You can have agitation, fever, “black outs” similar to alcoholic blackouts, and seizures or convulsions that can be repetitive and necessitates hospitalization to control the seizures.

It is important to get the proper help and support around your alcohol detox. Imagine having some of these symptoms on your own and recognize that one or more support people are necessary to make your alcohol detox as easy as possible. There are particular treatments available for those who are addicted to alcohol, even those who feel they have minor problems with alcohol consumption.

If you attend an alcohol recovery support group, ask some members to be with you when you go through alcohol detox or find out who they’ve used to help them get through the process. Remember, it doesn’t last forever and you are not alone.

Going vegetarian doesn’t guarantee weight loss and make you slim. As technology advances and more processed vegetarian foods “sprout up”, the waistline of a vegetarian is growing as big as a meat-eater. It’s getting hard to differentiate between these 2 groups of people who eat differently.

Here are the few reasons why you, a vegetarian is facing overweight issue, which is normally the problem of a meat-eater.

1. Cheap pre-packaged vegetarian foods infused with sodium, sugar and saturated fat that are too tempting to resist.

2. Because vegetarians are growing at warp rate, many non-veggie restaurants come up with veggie meals to share this big pie. Again, they use too many high-sodium, high-sugar, oily TVP (textured vegetable proteins) on their veggie dishes. Common sense says that such diet is not going to help any vegetarian lose weight.

3. The belief of “vegetarians are normally slim” or “vegetarian diet can help lose weight” have been crushed. Vegetarians started to show skepticism about whether they can really become slim.

4. Vegetarians are not spared in the agony of stressful workload and household matters. You still have to earn a living and take care of your spouse and kids and so on.

5. You don’t obtain sufficient quality sleep and you always sleep late. Like many other people in general, you get hooked on facebook, twitter, other social networking activities and online games.

6. You go with soda, sugar-laced coffee, beer, alcohol and other high-calorie beverages but drink less water.

7. Because of your fiber-deficient food intake, you suffer from constipation. Storing waste in your body for more than 2 days can intoxicate your body and make your fat difficult to be retrieved from fat stores for energy use.

8. You eat too fast. Before your stomach tells your brain its full, you’ve already finished the entire plate, resulting in over consumption of calories without realizing.

9. You lead a sedentary vegetarian lifestyle with little or no exercise.

These unhealthy ways of living are prime causes for your metabolic disorder. You must fix your metabolism back to its active state in order to lose weight as a vegetarian. How? Just reverse them all:

1. Avoid processed food with high sugar, sodium and fat.

2. Prepare your own vegetarian meals. You’ll have a better chance of losing weight than when you eat out since you can control the quantity and quality of ingredients used.

3. Vegetarian diet does help lose weight, only if you eat healthily and nutritiously.

4. Learn how to cope with stress by going for massaging, exercising etc.

5. Sleep early and get enough quality sleep.

6. Stop all high-calorie, high-sugar beverages. Substitute them with water. You have more spare cash left too.

7. Eat more vegetables as these fibrous food will help you detox effectively. Less toxin in your body means more fat can be readily converted into energy to fuel your bodily needs.

8. Take time to savor your meal. Give your stomach enough time to communicate with your brain about your satiation level.

9. Get on with exercises at least 3 times a week. You’ll feel more energetic every day.

Knowing these vegetarian weight loss tips is one thing, but applying them is another story. If you don’t do them, you’ll forever get stuck within this fat piece of skin. I used to be like you, if I can do it, why can’t you?

Let’s prove to the whole world that VEGETARIAN is the ultimate diet and lifestyle to lose weight. Ok? Good.

Article by Rod MacTaggart

The recent rash of celebrity drunk driving arrests has brought international attention to the problems of alcohol abuse among the rich and famous. And it’s created a new celebrity of sorts, a high-tech booze-sniffing ankle bracelet called SCRAM – meaning Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor – most recently attached to the well-turned ankle of movie star Lindsay Lohan. The actress volunteered to wear the alcohol monitor temporarily while awaiting a court hearing after spending 45 days in successful alcohol detox program and rehab.

SCRAM cannot be removed or cheated, according to its maker, Alcohol Monitoring Systems of Denver, CO. The bracelet samples an individual’s perspiration every hour and checks for alcohol consumption, using the same technology as the famed “Breathalyzer”. While SCRAM is usually used to monitor repeat, high-risk driving-under-the-influence (DUI) offenders, the system is also proving useful in managing domestic violence offenders and as a tool in family courts, says the company. It has also been helpful in tracking recovering alcoholics in various successful alcohol detox program and rehab settings.

Lindsay Lohan’s stay at an expensive private resort-style alcohol detox and rehab facility doesn’t change the fact that she is just one of more than 1.4 million Americans busted for DUI across the country, many of whom need alcohol detox and rehab programs. And when she buckled on her SCRAM bracelet, Ms. Lohan joined nearly 36,000 other alcohol-restricted offenders that have already been monitored by SCRAM.

Despite a recent surge in publicity surrounding celebrity DUI cases, SCRAM isn’t just for the stars. It is widely used in more than 1,000 courts in 43 states. Across the country, more than 780,000 people are sentenced to community supervision each year – people caught up in the system who have fallen victim to alcohol abuse, addiction and dependence. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, an estimated 17.6 million Americans are dependent on or abuse alcohol, and alcohol abuse costs the U.S. 5 billion each year.

SCRAM weighs less than a can of beer, and locks snugly around the lower ankle. An infrared light detects if the wearer tries to remove it or slip something between the device and their skin. It measures body temperature and perspiration, and can detect if someone imbibes as little as one drink. It captures perspiration and calibrates blood-alcohol level once an hour. It can also be set to test every half-hour. Each evening, it sends the data through a modem to the home office in Denver, where drug court or alcohol detox and rehab supervisors around the country can view the results.

The need for alcohol detox and rehab programs is growing in America. Technological advances like SCRAM are helping in many ways. But the bottom line for alcohol abuse, addiction and dependence is still successful drug and alcohol detox and rehab programs that really get down to the bottom of why the person is drinking so they can quit.

Alcohol rehab – Information and ResourcesAlcohol rehab, or Alcohol rehab for short, is a place where people addicted to alcohol can go to get treatment for their addictions and gain the knowledge and tools to live a productive and alcohol-free life. Alcohol rehab is not just a destination, but a long journey. Once alcoholism has taken hold, it’s permanent and it takes a lifetime of abstinence and sobriety to maintain a healthy life. There is no cure for alcoholism as of yet, but there is treatment and it is that treatment, or rehabilitation that saves thousands of lives every year. Alcoholism is a progressive disease that causes physical and psychological addiction.

What is Alcohol rehab?

Alcohol rehab is a complex process which often not only deals with the blanket approach to treating the addiction, but also co-occurring mental disorders – known as dual diagnosis treatment, which often contribute to alcoholism taking control. For many Alcohol rehab centers there is one goal, but a myriad of treatment philosophies and methodologies. Depending on the individual and the severity of the alcoholism, certain types of rehabilitation centers may be required. For more severe cases of alcoholism, detox may be necessary. Detox is the first step in Alcohol rehab.

Kinds of Alcohol rehab

There are many different kinds of Alcohol rehab programs available for alcoholics to seek help. Alcoholism is as different in each individual as the individuals themselves. Since the disease of alcoholism varies in each individual, the type of rehabilitation program necessary to be effective for various alcoholics varies as well. It is important to research the myriad of Alcohol rehab programs before making a decision, as there are many factors to consider.

Former drug addicts need to learn to relax in natural, drug-free ways. The staff at the drug rehab may teach techniques such as yoga, deep breathing, sports, massage, art, journaling and other ways of releasing tension and managing stress. Most treatment centers also have a nature component: Depending upon the program’s location, this might include walking by a beach or in a forest, engaging in snow sports, playing outdoor games, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

The counseling staff determines when the person has mastered the program and is ready to go home. Most people have to remain in full-time treatment for several months. Government studies indicate that the longer people remain in drug rehab, the more likely it is that they will recover.

Follow-Up Care –

A recovering drug addict continues to need help after he has completed drug rehab treatment and returns to “normal life.” Usually, he continues to see a therapist near his home, and his family enters family therapy. Nearly all former addicts attend support such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous. Follow-up care can continue for years

Alcohol abuse or addiction is one of the main problems of most people, and sometimes the seriousness of their addiction can cause the body to weaken or their social life to suffer tremendously. Hence, the need to undergo alcohol detox treatment is vital.

Alcohol detoxification is a form of treatment for individuals with alcohol problems or alcohol dependency. The treatment will make the alcoholic abruptly stop their alcohol intake and to prevent the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal they will have to take a drug as a substitute. In other words, the process is not in any way constituting a complete removal of toxic in the body of an alcoholic.

The process may be too hard for most people, as long-term alcoholic will have too suddenly rid of their addiction abruptly. In fact, without the drugs there are no way that a person can survive without drinking for a day or two unless they are pretty determined to do so. That would mean a person with strong desire for change.

A person suffering from alcohol abuse would need complete removal of alcohol substance off their body, too finally kick the habit for good. The alcohol detox treatment is the perfect way to do it as this process can give the drinker the chance to remove the alcohol substance in the body without letting them suffer significantly with the symptoms.

The duration of the treatment varies according to the person or period of use. The fact is this; a person can experience mild or severe alcohol withdrawal symptoms according to the abuse of the alcohol. Normally, the symptoms show within two days or 48 hours to about a week.

The more common symptoms are nausea, irritability, bad temper, headaches, loss of appetite, and weight loss. Severe symptoms are seizures, blackouts, anxiety, hallucinations and fever. These symptoms are possible to minimize even with the sudden stop of alcohol intake as long as you undergo a detox treatment.

Furthermore, since the symptoms can easily drained a person emotionally and physically, you can also opt to combat the withdrawal process with natural remedy such as drinking lots of water or juice. However, family support and determination to rid your bad habit is also a key factor to living a good life.

Alcohol detox treatment is just one of the many ways to help you overcome addiction, and if done properly can help you start a new life.

We’ve been friends since childhood and I didn’t anticipate that it would end up like this– that she would someday (which is now) be an alcoholic. We have always looked out for each other, and she has always been kind of like a big sister to me. So now it’s my turn to be like a big sister to her by helping her find an alcohol rehab for herself. How will I do this?

I don’t know where to turn. To shorten a very long story as best as I can my 24 year old brother is a severe alcoholic, he does nothing but drink and if he doesn’t drink he has seizures. These seizures have racked up hospital bills that he will never be able to pay since he can never get a job because his problem is debilitating. I think he started drinking because he has an anxiety problem. He used to be a star baseball player and a “normal” person, but for the last five or so years has basically been ghost who has no real life and no future…it breaks my heart every time I see him. It’s killing him and ruining my family. We do not have a lot of money, but I’m willing to find a way to get it if necessary and the only detox he has ever been to was literally in the ghetto and it was a terrible situation so we don’t want him to go back there. I guess I just don’t know what to do, does anyone know how to get him help or have ever been in a smilar situation who can help?

Please none of the seek professional help etc answers? I am an addict. I continually fall back into addiction time and time again thinking I am yet again in control. This time it was Dextroamphetaime which I was prescribed by my doctor for fatigue and inability to concentrate. These problems were the direct result of depression caused by Xanax addiction (another doctor) to help with alcohol addiction (did detox and therapy for it).

So I know the ropes but am actually becoming addicted and abusing the drugs I am supposed to use to help me. I know its not the drugs or the doctors I cant blame them as I was doing good prior to abusing them.

Now to the question. I know in the times of Adderall and Dexedrine and Dextroamphetamine and Mixed Amphetamine Salt Combo I am not the only one to have gone through these withdrawls. I was eating them on an empty stomach, drinking energy drinks, and smoking over a pack of cigarettes a day on top. I am quitting all stimulants cold turkey and cant stay awake or stop eating myself sick. Also the feeling of withdrawls is terrible in itself. Anyone got a home remedy? Sorry for the length of this by the way.

My dad already quit alcohol years ago, so it really surprised me that he started again now. I just learned this when he called me up on the phone in the middle of the night and he really sounded drunk. He admitted that he was, and this really scares me. I guess this is because he has recently learned that my mom, whom he divorced years ago, has already found another guy to marry. I feel sad for my dad, and I really would do whatever I can to get him treated in an alcohol rehab. I don’t know how to find one for him, though, as I’m far from his place.
