Due to the overwhelming focus of the general public on finding a way to stay young, several theories and products have been invented to help in this area. To begin, you need to be aware of your skin type, which will help you choose the right products for your situation. Here are a few tips that can help you maintain and improve your skin.

People do many things that affect their health badly, and they do the same for their skin. Smoking and drinking, for example, can both add years to your face. It is interesting that women, who are concerned about their looks, will smoke or drink, knowing that it will make them look older. Alcohol may be beneficial in lesser amounts, so it is drinking excessive amounts of alcoholic beverages that can be damaging to your health. Building up toxins in your body will result in bad things happening to your skin, so you should limit your intake of junk food.

Going to a spa or a salon and getting a facial every so often can be a good way to take care of your skin. Finding the right product for your skin type, can be determined quite quickly by a trained beautician, and that is a big advantage. To clean the skin with a facial is very beneficial because it will unplug the pores. The looks of your skin can be improved by using the right moisturizing product on a regular basis. Facials are not affordable for everyone, so they should be done when possible, and get a recommended product from your beautician to use between visits.

As you should know by now, good health takes work, such as regular exercise, and this works for your skin, too. Aerobic exercise, also known as cardiovascular exercise, should be done for good health, along with resistance or weight training. There are many benefits of exercise, but one good one is making you sweat, which helps you detox your body. Being a member of a health club, especially one with a sauna, or steam room, will allow you to clean out your pores after a workout. When you exercise regularly, this also helps to reduce stress and can make it easier for you to get a good night’s sleep, all factors that help keep your skin looking great.

You have a lot of choices when it comes to skin care, and the best choices may take some research. Everything that goes into your body, or is put on it , will affect your skin, since it is an organ. The skin works best in moderate, moist climates, rather than where it is too hot, or too cold. To look your best it will take good skin care, and that will take a certain level of patience and also regular daily effort.

Alcohol detox is an important part of the rehabilitation treatment for alcoholics. It is basically a process that is aimed to remove the accumulated toxins from the patient’s body with the aid of certain medications. In addition to that, this is also done to help reduce the effects of withdrawal syndrome.

Sudden alcohol cessation causes adverse effects in the body, which is manifested through various withdrawal symptoms. Since the GABA neurotransmitters are greatly affected when alcohol leaves the body, the brain enters into a hyper-excited state. This state causes the patient to become more irritable and anxious. In addition, tremors may also be observed in some cases, while heavy drinkers may experience seizures during the detox process.

The main purpose of the alcohol detoxification is to efficiently eliminate all kinds of toxins currently circulating inside the patient’s body. This is done by administering cross-tolerant medications that will help in the detoxification process while relieving the painful effects of alcohol withdrawal.

Alcohol detoxification must be carried out by medical professionals. Since it involves a very delicate process, strict medical supervision must be adhered to. Drugs classified under the Benzodiazepines group are normally prescribed to patients in order to control the withdrawal symptoms.

An alcohol detox patient should expect the following during the detoxification process:

* On the first day of the detox process, the patient will be given a high dosage medication. This medication is intended to purge the toxins out of the body.

* Over the succeeding weeks, the dosage will be lowered as needed (depending on how the patient’s body responds to the treatment).

* It is highly advised that the patient’s family give their full support since their presence and continuous encouragement can significantly help in the fast recovery of the patient.

The patient will be fully supervised and guided all throughout the alcohol detox process to closely monitor his/her health progress.

There are few people who skips the first step and directly go to the second step. This is in fact a useless endeavor as there will be a remains of alcohol in the body.

My boyfriend and I have been dating for nearly 6 months.I am 23, he is 24. We met in college and graduated together. We moved to the same city to pursue similar careers. Both of us have found an amazing connection to eachother, we are rational, logical individuals and enjoy the same things, we get involved in the same activities and have similar thoughts on subjects. We both agreed we had found something in eachothers company that has been missing from the company we had held before, we have similr backgrounds, both of us have had troubled use in drugs and alcohol and family issues..
We moved in together out of convenience for a month while he waited maintenence work to be done on his new house and somethings came to light for me. First off, his moods became very bipolar, he was chatty and extroverted and generally blissful one hour and the next, he’d remove himself to his room and just stare into space and/or nod off. I noticed the nodding off quite alot as I use to do that when I was hooked on heroin, codeine and benzodiazapeines a few years ago (i’m 100% clean now), so, the nodding off became more frequent, as did these mood shifts, he would speak of going on day trips together, walking our dog together, doing some activities, like riding our bikes etc etc, but these activities rarely came to fruition as he would just retire to his chair in the corner and nod off.
Then something quite odd I started to notice, though the temperature started to rise as the Summer hit full force in the town, he would only wear long sleeves, now hes not the kind of guy to own an abundance of clothes, so he would wear the same shirts (long sleeves) day in and day out in rotation, all through this stifling summer heat, and he cycles to work alot, so when he gets home, he is DRENCHED in sweat and exhausted. I made some short comments on why he did this and got some response along the lines of it’s comfortable in the office or whatever, then, as of late, he turns off the light before he goes to bed and only then will he take off his top, even during sex, I cant get a good view of his arms….so. My rational deduction to this was, he is shooting up heroin and hiding the track marks.
Now, from being a user previously, I know for a fact, track marks should not be extremely visible if a) you use a clean needle every time b) you use fine needles c) you inject to a different deposit place each time, a millimetre makes all the difference d) you dont miss a vein. e) you moisturise and take care of the injection site
So, I have been deliberating on just straight up asking him has been using, then, when I went through to take his laundry out on my day off from work, I found his heroin kit, one needle, spoon, lighter, cotton swabs and the powder. I need to tell him I know, because if he needs help, he needs to know I will help him. Then again, if he does not want help, and wishes to continue using, yes, I will stay with him, but we will talk freely about his dosage and when it does become a problem, I will be there for him.
I have done my research on other girlfriends having this issue and the only answers I get back are “omg, dump that junkie trash girl” or ” thats so disgusting, hell always be a junkie and is going to steal all your things and sell them on the street” blah blah blah, sorry, but my boyfriend is a strong and independant individual and would never steal from me, because he knows I would make his life a living hell if he hurt me in any way (probably why he has kept this from me) So If anyone could give me a good way to verbalise my knowledge of his use in a way that doesnt sound like I am scolding him or trying to control his use then It would be much appreciated.
NOTE: I want to let him now, I will not put him into NA or support groups or detox centres or methadone treatment, from having drug and alcohol issues in the past, these are the single things I found contributed to a relapse as soon as I left.
As a good human being I do not see the point in dumping him and causing him to suffer depression and loss of a supportive person in his life therefore causing the downward spiral of further use and addiction. I hope this makes sense to some people out there that I only wish to be a supportive person to him, whether or not our relationship lasts, Im looking beyond the fact we are dating and looking to the fact that we are both human beings and one cares deeply about the other enough to help them in a time of need.
Thanking you in advance.

Detox, a term previously used exclusively in connection with coming off alcohol, or “substances” withdrawal, has become the health buzzword of the 21st century. It’s a favourite topic amongst the cognoscenti in the global alternative health community, where it is hailed as a major breakthrough in the human race’s relentless quest for vibrant health, fitness, renewed energy and longevity.

Detox as perceived in alternative medicine circles is not recognised as necessary by the traditional medical profession. It’s even sneered at and treated as just another fad.

Come to think of it, how can a traditional doctor recognise detox when he or she constantly prescribes toxins in the form of various chemical tablets and pills?

Between one extreme and the other, one has to look at hard facts in order to determine whether detox makes sense on a personal level, especially now that symptoms of toxicity are well recognised. Headache, digestive problems, bloating, IBS, muscular pain, cough, gastrointestinal problems, depression, immune system weakness and fatigue can all be attributed to toxic overload.

Do you suffer from any of the symptoms above?

Here is a fact for you. The majority of people who undergo detox report a feeling of extreme well being as a result. They feel healthier, slimmer, cleaner, purer, more energetic and more focused. Surely all this cannot be imagined?

Louis Kuhne, a naturopath from Leipzig, Germany -hailed by his contemporaries as “a genius in the Art of Healing”- was a pioneer of the detox concept back in 1883. His doctrine of the Unity of Diseases stipulates that all diseases are caused by an accumulation of toxins in the body. He devised an ingeniously simple healing panacea based on hydrotherapy -specially featuring his famous friction sitz bath- accompanied by a wholesome, strictly vegetarian diet.

Using these simple methods, Kuhne achieved phenomenal success in healing a wide spectrum of previously incurable diseases, and helping his patients recover and maintain good health.

M.K Gandhi (the Mahatma) praised Kuhne’s baths in a correspondence

to Nehru on January 17th, 1929 saying: “I utterly distrust doctors’ reports, I strongly recommend Kuhne’s bath and sun baths.”

The Detox Bath is based on Louis Kuhne’s friction sitz bath. It is a tool that nature generously provides us with, to help us maintain our health and body in optimal condition.

According to Kuhne, internal body heat, -generated by movement, digestion, stress or shock- pushes excess fat and toxins out to the body’s periphery where they deposit and can no longer be eliminated. The Detox Bath working principle is to cool down the core area of the body, i.e. the groin and genitals by applying cold water for ten to twenty minutes daily, or at least 4 times a week (depending on your initial condition and the results you seek to achieve). This action provokes a vibration in the fascia, (interconnecting tissue covering all internal organs) which produces a roll- back effect driving excess fat and toxins back into the intestines, where they can be eliminated.

The Detox Bath will help you flush toxins, excess fat and cellulite out of your system on a daily basis. Practiced regularly it will boost your mood and energy. It will make you sleep better, help your body stay slim and toned and give you a beautifully clear skin and radiant complexion. It uses nothing but water to help eliminate fat and toxins and maintain a healthy, fit and toned body.

The detox treatment in Oklahoma is definitely one of the most important parts of the entire addiction treatment program in the state. Most programs for addiction treatment in the state include the detox treatment as the primary process of the treatment and the rest of the program follows suit. Let us understand the detox treatment in Oklahoma a little better.

What is the Detox Treatment Program?

The detox treatment program is a program wherein the person’s body is cleansed from the substances that accumulate in it due to the addiction. When a person has been using a particular addictive substance for a period of time, there are high chances that the substance would not be metabolized properly and this could create a toxic buildup in the body of the person. Over time, this toxicity would hamper with the normal working of the body and create health complications. The main intention of the detox treatment in Oklahoma and elsewhere is to free up this toxic accumulation in the body.

How is Detox Treatment in Oklahoma conducted?

There is a definite process for conducting the detox treatment program in Oklahoma. When a person is put into this program, the first thing that is done is to make the person abstain completely from the substance. This is done in an inpatient treatment center so that the person can be constantly monitored for the abstinence and for the progress of the treatment.

Once the abstinence begins, the person will develop the withdrawal pangs within one or two days depending on how intense the addiction has been with the patient and the nature of the addiction. This can take on a very intense form in a very short while. That is the reason constant medical supervision is provided.

There are two aims that detox medication tries to achieve. The first intention of this medication is to stop or reduce the craving the person has for the substance. This is done through special medication that can target the same areas of the person’s brain as the addictive substance does. Due to this, as long as that medication is kept on, the person won’t feel the craving for that substance. One example here is methadone which is used in the heroin detox treatment in Oklahoma. Methadone is an opiate just like heroin is and it has almost the same influence on the person’s brain as heroin. Hence, when a person takes methadone, the urge for heroin is allayed.

The second purpose of the medication that is provided during the detox treatment is to reduce the pain and the effects of the withdrawal. Depending on the nature and the intensity of the addiction, the patient will face several problems such as pains and aches, muscle cramps, giddiness and dizziness, hunger pangs, etc. Antidepressants and painkillers may be provided to mitigate these effects.

The detox treatment in Oklahoma will continue till the time all the withdrawal effects are removed from the patient. This can take anywhere from three days to three weeks, depending on how intense the person’s addiction is. In normal cases, the patient will be out of the detox in three to seven days, but if the addiction has been for a very long time, or if there are some other bodily or psychiatric complications coming in the way, or if the addiction is of a very strong substance such as methamphetamine or heroin, then there is a possibility that the detox will go on for a long period of time.

What are the Benefits of the Detox Treatment in Oklahoma?

The primary benefit of the detox treatment is to purge all the toxic materials from the body of the person. This is very important if the person is looking at complete recovery. Without removing these substances, health complications can occur at any time in life, even years after the person has worked his or her own way out of the addiction. A good example of this is the possible occurrence of the fatal cirrhosis of the liver in people who have given up an alcohol addiction years ago.

But there is another very important reason why the detox treatment is considered to be a vital element of the addiction treatment program in Oklahoma. When the substance is completely removed from the body of the person, there is a definite chance that the person will lose the craving for the substance. This is not possible even if the faintest trace of the substance remains in the person’s body. That is the reason detox has to be conducted, whether the person is physically and mentally able for it or not.

I have a 27 year old son Who started drinking around 4-5 years ago. Since about a year ago it’s gotten out of control. He’s in serious condition and is in deep need of severe intense help. He has a wife they married about 4 months ago and his wife recently learned she was pregnant with their first child. He has no financial resources except for what he gets from Human Resources. From what his wife and I know thus far the places we looked at thus far doesn’t cover his medical insurance. Having no financial resources I can not help pay for his treatment if he was to receive any. He is close to death if he doesn’t get some help NOW. Does Anyone here reading this now know of Intervention programs that will take Medicaid alone or combined Medicaid with some financial monies at low minimum cost. If it was to be at low minimum cost we his family might be able to find a way to get it together or even maybe easier yet if the Intervention program would accept his medicaid insurance combined with paying in monthly installments we may be able to have an easier way to working it out. I come here in love for my son, I can’t lose him. If anyone has any kind of suggestions where his wife, myself, and his sister can him the much needed yet very necessary care he needs to help him beat this undesirable disease of alcoholism. He just lost his dad in Sept. 2007 please help him to not be the next, as his dad also was an alcoholic and I don’t want my son ending up where his dad is this very moment—dead. Thanks for taking time to read this as well as allowing me to vent a bit of my frustartion and pain over this. I have no where to turn so that’s my reason of why I came here to all who now read this in hope of getting someone to make suggestions or help refer him somewhere. He’s presently in the hospital in the Detox ward. This is his 3rd time there since late October. He can’t continue life as he is now.
Rehab and A.A. have been looked into. He’s participated in them. Research on the two have been made with no success. It’s unrelistic to thinkon my part but he needs one on one daily care for anywhere between I’d 6-12 months or longer in an intervention facility. unrealististic on my part as I realize that there’s others in need of help & not just him who can’t be denied because he’s there but equal. Should anyone have suggestions, ideas or could be of help to him I realize one must be caustious when dealing with situations online therefore if anyone would want to give further information let me know through here. I can suppy you with my E-mail address as well as the name, address, and location where he’s at. You may investigate on your own so you’d kown the place is for legit while at the same time allow me to take safety precautions needed for him and the family because of the fact all this is taking place by means of the computer

It is said that taking the first step toward overcoming addiction is the hardest part. There are so many people who have feared detoxification based on old myths and old movies. Detox has come a long way in recent years and most people find that while it is not easy, the anticipation of what we might experience in detox is worse than the detox experience itself.

If you have decided to go through drug detox or alcohol detox, then you should do so in a caring environment which treats the whole person. This is called holistic treatment and helps the mind, body and spirit to strengthen against the addiction. We must rid our lives entirely of the addiction for it to be useful. It helps to understand three things about addictions and detox.

1. A symptom of the addiction is to fear detoxification. Your mind and body have gotten so used to the drugs and they resist even the thought of ridding your system of them. Fear is a very strong emotion but normally, it turns out that the fear of detox is often worse than the actual experience. Our minds conjure up all sorts of outdated and mythical information so that we resist going. The only way to conquer this is by realizing that this happens and by becoming educated about what really happens during detox.

2. There are many tools to help ease the symptoms of withdrawal. It used to be that an alcoholic or drug addict was just left locked in a room to wait out the detoxification but that is no longer the case. There are detox centers that have caring individuals who have either been through the experience themselves or are trained in dealing with detox. There are many physical and psychological tools available to help ease the symptoms of withdrawal, including medications. Going through detox is much easier with these tools available.

3. Detox is one step in the entire process of beating the addiction. It is a very important step, but it is just one. Becoming free of an addiction is a process that will take time and commitment. It is a process that can help you reclaim your life and find happiness again, so it is well worth it. Don’t stop with detox. Follow it through and stay on the journey to being drug and alcohol free.

When we are consumed by drug and/or alcohol addictions, our minds trap us into staying that way. With detox and other methods of dealing with addiction, we learn to overcome the fear we have created for ourselves. Becoming drug and alcohol free and staying that way is a lifelong process but the result is a life that includes happiness and understanding. Addictions keep our minds focused on the negative so we do not see the bright futures that are available once we are free of our addictions. Detox centers have all of the tools you need to succeed. Start your successful journey today.

A drug and alcohol addiction treatment program is one of the most successful ways to wean yourself from drugs, alcohol and all other addicting processes. If you are at the stage where you are considering drug and alcohol addiction recovery, the good news is that you are on the road to recovery. The bad news is that this is a long and very difficult journey that you will have to take. A drug rehab clinic is often one of the best ways for you to detox from alcohol and drug use. But, you need to do so with the necessary knowledge about the drug and alcohol addiction treatment program you plan to attend.

Here are some fundamental things to consider about the drug and alcohol addiction treatment program you are considering.

· Your drug rehab clinic should provide help for all areas of the infected person. That includes their psychological, medical, and legal problems. It can also address their needs for finding a way to work and overall restart their life.
· Realize that not all treatment programs are the same for everyone. You should work with the clinic to determine the most appropriate treatment program for your specific circumstances.
· The program should allow for continuous change to it, as the individual grows through it. As they begin to repair the damage done to them by drugs, the effective treatment program should change to accommodate these needs.
· Time is needed. It is necessary for a person to stay in treatment for as long as possible. On average, this is about three full months. Only with enough time will the treatment be successful.
· The drug and alcohol addiction treatment program also needs to focus on the medicinal needs of the patient. That would mean careful consideration for their specific medical concerns. Things like withdrawal medications are almost always necessary in severely addicted individuals.
· You should realize that detoxifying the individual is not enough to stop the behavior. The drug rehab clinic needs to handle more than just this process. It needs to look for the long term rehabilitation of the individual. Detoxing is just not enough.
· Also, you should take note that voluntary drug treatment is not always necessary. If a person is motivated to detox because of family, employment or legal problems, this can be enough to push them through it. Additionally, this force to go in can help them to become more successful at their program as well.

Drug and alcohol addiction recovery does and can happen through a high quality drug and alcohol addiction treatment program. Once the alcohol and drug detox has happened, the next step is to correct the behavioral, emotional, physical and long term effects of the drugs. This can be the mark of healing when the program addresses the full scope of what is happening.

First off, when attempting to get off alcohol or drugs, be advised that medical personnel should always monitor any kind of detoxification in order to provide prompt and educated aid to those striving to rid their bodies of the effects of chronic alcohol and drug abuse. An alcohol detox program is only the first of many steps that alcoholics will take on the long road to recovery.

Withdrawal is the first process that an alcoholic must take to begin the cleansing process that will ultimately remove all traces of alcohol from their body systems. With alcoholism or drug abuse, the body becomes dependent on those drugs or alcohol, and during an alcohol detox, withdrawal is the process by which drug or alcohol induced toxins are exorcised from the body. It isn’t easy, and many people aren’t mentally or physically prepared for the process. But with an alcohol detox program, that’s only the first step. The next step, therapeutic and emotional counseling, are only begun after the person has completed the alcohol withdrawal process. Some well meaning people try to skip to the second step first, but such an endeavor is useless, as any remnant of alcohol in the body will continue to induce cravings for it, thereby defeating any and all arguments to the contrary.

The term, alcohol detox, is officially defined as the period of time it takes someone to overcome his or her physical dependence and need for alcohol. In an alcohol detox rehab center, this process is carefully and closely monitored by trained medical personnel experienced in dealing with the moods and temperaments of alcoholics on the road to recovery. The end goal of an alcohol detox program is to free the alcoholic of the addictive effect of alcohol on their body, in addition to helping them get through that most difficult process as pain free as possible. An alcohol detox center will offer expert guidance and advice to those wishing to enroll in their program and to help people get a good start on the road to a long-term recovery. For the most part, an alcohol detox program is completed within an in-patient, medical type setting so that patients can be closely monitored and helped.

Experiencing alcohol detox isn’t pleasant and can produce symptoms that express both physically and emotionally. Many who have completed an alcohol detox program claim the experience, though necessary, was traumatic and withdrawal from alcohol or drugs can produce both physical and mental manifestations that range from mild to alarmingly severe. That’s why it’s so important for people to go through an alcohol detox process in a licensed facility with fully trained medical staff on hand to oversee the process. Some people experience headaches, the ‘shakes’, vomiting, insomnia and even delirium tremors, more commonly known as the ‘DTs’ and even seizures. Supervised alcohol detox is recommended, especially since one in four patients may experience severe withdrawal symptoms like seizures and convulsions.

An alcohol detox program can take within three to seven days in most cases, and then the rehabilitation process begins. It’s not an easy battle, but with the help of an alcohol detox program, a person has a high chance of not only a healthy recovery, but also a less stressful one.

The alcohol detox program in Iowa is the backbone of most treatment formats for the substance within the state. It is quite an integral phase of the treatment, and in most cases, the treatment providers will chalk out the entire recovery process based on the detox treatment they will provide. You will also find that detoxification has a very important mention on the state health website of Iowa in the alcohol abuse and alcohol treatment section. Also, there is a very emphatic mention of this program when you visit a substance abuse counselor to discuss what kinds of options you have. It can be clearly seen then that the alcohol detox treatment program in Iowa is a vital part of the entire recovery program. Here are some things that you need to know about it.

The Implementation of the Alcohol Detox Treatment Program in Iowa

When a person is put into alcohol detox treatment in Iowa, the first part of the process is to run a complete diagnostic analysis on them. They are subjected to a number of tests in order to ensure that the patients do not have any kind of physical or mental complications that might come in the way of their treatment. In case there are some such problems that might impede the detox treatment for them, they are put into specialized treatment programs, of which the dual diagnosis is one.

Once it has been deemed that the person is capable of going through the alcohol detox treatment program, they are housed in a confined place that has amenities for medical supervision. They are placed under nursing care, and away from their friends and relatives. Most importantly, they are made to live with a healthy lifestyle, devoid of any alcohol in the environment.

Depending on the intensity of the person’s addiction, they will feel the withdrawal symptoms coming on. This is likely to happen in a day or two after the person begins the abstinence. The effects of the withdrawal will be different from one person to another too, which will again depend on the extent of the addiction the person is in.

The main task of the treatment providers now will be to bring the patient out of the withdrawal symptoms. This can be quite challenging in people who have been with their addictions for a long time. The healthcare professionals will provide patients with the right kinds of medications that would help keep their temptations at bay. These medications will also be targeted at normalizing the state of their body that gets ravaged due to the withdrawal symptoms. The commonest medications used in the alcohol detox treatment program in Iowa include Antabuse (a medication that can create a complete disdain for alcohol in the mind of the patient), Campral (a medication used to bring the person’s body and mind to the normal state), Naltrexone and Topamax.

The alcohol detox treatment program in Iowa is considered to be over when the patient has been pulled completely out of the withdrawal. This can take anywhere between three days to three weeks or even more depending on the kind of addiction the person has been in. Even after the person ceases to experience withdrawal symptoms, they are kept on maintenance medication and a regular counseling phase to help them keep away from the substance.

The Purposes of the Alcohol Detox Treatment Program in Iowa

The primary intention of alcohol detox is to completely cleanse the body from the presence of alcohol in it. This does take time, but the medical care ensures that the substance is removed from the body to as much an extent as possible. By doing this, the treatment providers are ensuring that the person is kept away from health complications that might arise from the presence of alcohol in their bodies. This is applicable to health problems that might already be present in the person’s constitution as well as problems that might come on later in their lives.

There is another important reason why alcoholics are made to go through the alcohol detox treatment program in Iowa, and that is to speed up the entire treatment process. Till the time the body contains alcohol, it will be quite difficult for it to come out of the craving for the substance. The removal of the substance actually helps in accelerating the alcoholism recovery process.

Most people who check in for alcohol treatment do not consider that they will need a detoxification program. The general perspective of an alcohol addiction is such that people do not consider it to be a very difficult form of addiction at all and for that reason they do not give much importance to the detoxification part of it. But, the truth of the matter is that alcohol detox is quite significant. Detox is probably more significant in an alcoholism treatment than it is in the treatment of drug addiction. Here are some points about the alcohol detox program that you must be acquainted with.

How Alcohol Detox is conducted

Alcohol detox is usually the second step in a rehab program, immediately following the phase of overcoming denial. Once the patient is out of the denial, he or she is willing to go through the treatment process and this is when the detox program begins.

The detox starts by first making the patient live in an isolated setting away from family and friends. This is important because the patient must be kept away from familiar surroundings if he or she is really to come out of the temptation for the substance. When the patient is accommodated thus, he or she is made to completely abstain from alcohol. A healthy living program is started for the patient.

However, if the patient has been totally attached to the alcohol, there will be a withdrawal process that will begin soon. The withdrawal will begin within one or two days of the patient commencing the detox. Depending on how intensive the person’s addiction was, the withdrawal will be mild or severe. In the severest cases, the patient will feel several physical symptoms including spasms, convulsions, excessive perspiration, cramps and several more. The patient will feel a very strong urge of getting at the alcohol in some manner or the other. This is where people can fail in their recovery if they are attempting self-detox.

But because the patient is undergoing the treatment in a professional center, there will be constant medical supervision that will help bring them out of the withdrawal. The doctors will provide a medicinal therapy that will help them in various ways. The following are the medications that might be used:-

Antabuse: This helps to keep the patient away from the temptation of using alcohol anymore. In fact, it will create a dislike in the person’s mind for the alcohol.

Naltrexone: This is used to decrease the craving for alcohol as well as to prevent the harm that the alcohol can produce in the person’s body.

Campral: This helps in keeping the mind of the patient balanced while trying to come out of the strong dependence for alcohol.

Topamax: This is not actually used in detox, but it is used in outpatient treatment formats where it can help people gradually reduce the amount of alcohol that they consume.

The basic purpose of the alcohol detox medications are to reduce the urge that the person has for alcohol as well as to normalize the body that has already been affected by the addiction.

Length of an Alcohol Detox

This will actually depend on how intensely the person is hooked to alcohol. In people who have minor instances of occasional uncontrollable abuse of alcohol, three to four days are more than sufficient to pull them out of their dependency. But in people who use alcohol to a high extent, there will be a longer time required to pull them out of the detox. A week is sufficient for all kinds of alcohol detox, though.

Purposes of Alcohol Detox

The main and the most obvious purpose of an alcohol detox is to cleanse the toxins that will have housed in the person’s body due to the extensive use of the substance. This is important because the person may develop some health complications on account of those toxins. Cirrhosis of the liver is a very common condition among alcoholics, which can also occur years after the patient has been pulled out of the addiction if a detox had not been carried out at that time.

There is another reason why the detox program is so very significant in alcohol treatment. As long as there is alcohol present in the body of the person, the person won’t find it easy to come out of the addiction. This is because the craving of the substance will persist because of the presence of alcohol in the body. Hence, an alcohol detox also helps people in getting a speedier recovery process.
