He drinks vodka during breakfast, vodka during brunch, vodka during lunch, vodka during afternoon snacks, vodka during dinner and vodka during midnight snacks. I’ve even invented a term to describe his condition: vodkacephalus. His system is full of vodka. I’ve been trying to convince him into entering an alcohol rehab and I think he’s starting to give in. Please help me find an alcohol rehab in Round Rock to help my Uncle Bob live a vodka-free life.

I feel that I need to check myself in to some type of center or retreat for a week or 2 that can help me face what I consider to be minor addictions. Nothing that would warrant a full 90-day stay in rehab. I need a place that can provide some type of psycho-therapy, and/or spiritual guidance, and help me cleanse my body of alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana. I know there has to be something like this and I will continue to look, but thought maybe someone knows of somewhere that might help. I live in Houston but am willing to go anywhere within a 5-6 hour radius or so.

Drug rehabilitation programs within the state of Texas fall into one of three major categories: short or long term inpatient treatment, long term religious programs, and those that employ the 12-Step method. Each of these three methods of drug or alcohol rehab has its pros and cons and like most things, what works for one person may not work as well or at all for another.

Texas drug rehab centers that offer short-term treatment usually offer 30 days of inpatient care. Most insurance companies will cover this type of treatment up to the 30 day mark and additional days are at the patient’s expense. This results very often in release of the patient at the end of the 30 days, whether or not they’ve actually mastered the skills they need to maintain sobriety.

Addiction treatment programs that focus on the longer term treatment of the addiction generally have a higher success rate. Such alcohol and drug rehab programs often feature detox centers and take a biophysical approach and focus on results, not on a specific time table of treatment. They generally charge a flat fee, rather than a per-day rate. The benefits of the biophysical approach is that it allows time for the drug to process through the patient’s body and that helps increase the probability of success.

Church sponsored rehab has grown in popularity in the state of Texas. This type of addiction treatment focuses on moral, ethical and religious values to help the addict overcome his or her problem. Unlike some other methods of treatment, faith based rehab does not use other drugs to curb the addict’s cravings, giving the person the chance to detoxify without additional drugs being used. People who join and complete the treatment plan in church sponsored addiction treatment programs have a fairly high success rate, but the retention rate for such programs is low.

Most people have heard of the 12-step program that has been around for over 70 years now. These types of addiction programs are very common. These programs focus on group support to overcome addiction and to maintain sobriety as participants work their way through each of the 12 steps. They are less effective than long term inpatient treatment but have been successful in helping large numbers of people achieve and maintain sobriety over the years.

What determines outcome with each of these methods is largely up to the individual being treated, but longer term inpatient addiction treatment programs seem to exponentially increase the patient’s ability to beat the addiction. Taking the individual out of their environment so they can focus entirely on overcoming the addiction is very beneficial. It is also important to allow time for the drug of choice to exit the body and that can’t happen in a 30 day treatment program. Using other drugs to mask the symptoms of the addiction during rehab is also a short term fix. Patients who use programs that provide these sorts of drugs may feel they have mastered the addiction only to find that when they stop taking the drug, the addiction returns. Addiction treatment programs that are most successful also teach the participants how to respond to temptations that arise during social interaction.

The cost for drug treatment can vary greatly. The cost for treatment at a rehab center can be anywhere from $14,000 to well over $45,000, depending on the length of the stay and what the program offers. Most treatment centers bill on a per-day rate but there are some longer term facilities that bill a flat rate, regardless of length of stay. Faith based programs and 12-Step programs generally are low cost or no cost.

Drug rehab and addiction programs are available in all of Texas’ major cities. The Texas Alliance for Drug Endangered Children operates in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin, and provides resources for families with a member who has an addiction. In addition, each of the three types of drug addiction treatment programs mentioned can be found major cities, for example there are more than 100 Dallas drug rehab center options.
